How to increase your Click-Thru rate

A "Click Thru" rate means the number of times a person clicked on your banner or link after seeing it. The average click through rate is 1%-3%. So if we took a click through rate of 3% out of 50,000 impressions (the number of people that saw your ad, link, banner) that means 1500 people went to your site from there. Research  with Yahoo, Alta vista, Excite, Webcrawler, Lycos and Infoseek suggest click through rates can be as high as 20%.

There are two factors that play an important role in increasing your click through rate and these are:

(1)Target the audience (2) Refine the message

(1) Place the banners, ads and links where your audience is already at or will be looking for that kind of help. For example:  It's highly unlikely that a tee-shirt with "chocoholic" on it will sell well to an audience looking for insurance claim help.  On the other hand, links to the shirts from gift stores,   banners on gourmet sites, etc. will do much better.  This is pretty simple to figure out. You need to know who your audience is and where to find them on the Internet.

(2) Does the text or pictures compel your prospect to click it  and visit your site?

The offer or hint needs to be compelling enough to grab their attention and move them emotionally to want more. Have you ever wondered why long distance companies move you with heart-felt pictures to:

Before it's too late!

This factor is a little intuitive and has a few principles. How to come up with a grabbing ad? Hmmm.

1) Remind them of an emotional experience they've got locked in their head.
2) Use the fewest words possible.
3) Repeat the action you want them to take in both the words and pictures.
4) Font colors: GREEN is good, BLUE is to do, BLACK is fact and RED is dead.
5) If all else fails, use fear of loss

This can be done by trial and error, refining as we go, or we can survey our current audience and directly ask them about it.

We want to find out what moves our audience to action.  Ask questions like: What made you come to our site? What need did we fulfill? What made you purchase our product? Using their answers directly in the ad copy will greatly increase your results.

You have to see this, it's awesome!

Wow, what a great offer!!
