Cheap Stories

Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the most read and certainly the most profound story teller in History. He told us that most people will be able to see with their eyes, but not understand in their hearts - and rather than turning their minds, they will remain in darkness and not be healed.
(Matthew 13, Mark 4, Luke 8, John 12)

Example?
  • People that talk incessantly and never stop to listen.
  • People that watch movies but don't understand the plot.
  • People that marry - yet hate commitment and sacrifice.
  • People that live life but don't understanding its purpose.

I've read that 'genius' is having the ability to communicate complex ideas in simple terms. Not just ideas of science, but challenging ideas of faith, hope and sacrificial love. To be wealthy is to possess the genius to explain contradictory concepts that are fundamental to a life well lived.

Example?

I know a man that dreams of being rich. Not for the riches, but for the pure power. Yes, the pure POWER. For most of his adult life he has wanted the power to help people - to open the minds' eye of the blind - and to match their new found awareness with physical tools that can create spiritual and physical health as well as food, shelter and clothing.

I consider him a genius. Consider his thoughts:

Money is power. (false)

Try living without it for a while and you might believe that money is certainly power. Money does offers choices, but it also exposes people to temptations, carefully crafted plots to take that money and the threat of physical danger. Money demands attention and protection. If you don't understand this, look up "419 Nigerian Fraud".

The deceitfulness of money is that; once you've found the "pot of gold", real living can begin. If this is so, then why is it that most people who win the lottery are broke and poor within a few years, and their lives are worse off than before? If Money is Power, then why are the "Rich and Famous" largely relationally challenged? More of an essential thing is not necessarily better.

Words are cheap. (false)

Ask someone on their death bed about life. They search their minds for the words to express a lifetime of experience. They paint pictures attempting to explain things. They tell stories. It's a test of genius at the worst time - when they don't have time to share it with the world.

Stories are powerful. (true)

The creator of the universe chose to tell stories to convey the most challenging of concepts, like how to live a fulfilling life. Stories have the ability to change lives and people are fond of stories. Look at literature, music, movies and theatre. We surround ourselves with them. Might it be that a personal library of richly experienced stories is a measure of true riches?

The man I know has chased monetary riches as a kite chases the wind. At the end of each opportunity his hands are just as empty as when he started. This same man has wanted the power to inspire people, but he's believed that money is the key to his success. Thus, at the end of each promising deal is the draining belief that he's spent precious time vainly chasing the resources to help people, and God has once again stood in his way, or let riches slip through his hand with a wicked twist of circumstances.

God is funny.
He's provided for this man in a deeply caring and personal way. This man is richer and more powerful as a result of the chase than if the million had captured him. You see, his mind is full of wonderful failures and lessons about life. He's certainly not thought of as a bystander - sometimes a fool, possibly naive, but not stagnant. You see, he has a wealth of memories he's made a point to think about. He has glorious stories of the chase - and tales of the agony of defeat. He's also just discovering that he's become rich because he's changing people's lives - one story at a time - and that means he's just now getting the plot of his own story.

It's largely because of his best friend - his wife, Angelina.

I'm pleased to be that man.

Thank you for making me truly rich. May the stories I tell make a difference for you - and your children's children. I pray you're inspired to count your wealth worth sharing with other's.

Welcome to Alightintheattic.
